Athenian democracy or Spartan autocracy.

Roman republic or Roman empire.

British monarchy or American constitution.

These dichotomies have existed throughout history but tend to be exacerbated in our internet age. Now we have the authoritarian versus democratic power play trending virally all over the world. Russia, China, Brazil, America, etc. The common thread seems to be that people prefer people power – until they don’t. Depending on whose ox is gored.

Imagine if the world finally realized that peace and harmony could be achieved if we treated each other as equals instead of adversaries. It’s another ideal that has existed throughout history, from the Golden Rule to a Lennonesque Brotherhood of Man. Women, too? Yes, of course. But it is men who bear the blame for history’s interminable wars.

Notable too is Plato is cited in this article for exemplifying the conservative ‘Ideal.’

One might juxtapose Aristotle, ‘Everything in moderation.”
