Christians proselytized then and still do now. And, it’s still annoying. American political Evangelical Christians are arguably more annoying than any other religion in their zeal, and dangerous in their disdain for the separation of church and state. They seem to have no problem with sectarianizing the secular state – so long as it’s the Christian sect. They enthusiastically deny Jefferson’s Wall, and ironically support Trump’s. IMHO, American Christians are, to paraphrase Gandhi, so unlike Christ.

Read the New Testament. Jesus’s teachings were replete with warnings; conflating church and state had no support from Him.

Ironic too, how in the Middle Ages the Cross became the sword. Christian wars and persecutions practically dominated the past 1500 years. The Catholic Church is riddled with corruption, sexual and political. Protestant mega-money churches and political hegemony are even worse.

Would that Christianity have a new Reformation; a return to Jesus’s core message: Love.
