Education does not always equal intelligence. Socrates was no friend of democracy; he was an authoritarian. He believed that Greece should be ruled by those “who know.” Namely, philosophers – such as Socrates. Your father may be such a man. Educated, but an authoritarian who would rather dictate to the hoi polloi than engage them.

BTW, I’m sure you know that Socrates was tried and condemned for teaching the subversion of democracy. The Greeks feared a third attempted overthrow of their self-government after surviving two horrendous takeovers by Socrates’ very own students. The results were mass terror and murder.
