Excellent analysis! Elsa Lanchester [bride of Charles Laughton] was the perfect bride of Frankenstein’s monster. The ending scenes are genius! I’ve always loved the way Elsa swoons as she holds out her arm to Colin Clive, recalling how her Mary Shelley nearly faints and holds out her hand to Lord Byron who caused her to prick her finger in the beginning of the film. Even the gossamer gowns make the connection. ‘Bride’ is indeed Whale’s masterpiece.
If I may, my 30’s favorite horrors in order:
Bride of Frankenstein
Dracula
Frankenstein
King Kong
