I learned of Phryne when I came across the excellent Australian TV drama, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Essie Davis played Phryne Fisher, the ahead-of-her-day female detective. Like her namesake, she, too, was exceptionally beautiful, clever, and apparently wealthy.
