I meant my phrase about Trump in the Oval Office as facetious rather than predictive. But speaking of predictions, the election of 1912 is instructive for 2024. Popular ex-president Teddy Roosevelt challenged incumbent president Howard Taft for the nomination and split the Republican vote letting Democrat Woodrow Wilson walk into the White House; your response forecasts this perfectly.

As to Garland, I now see his Special Counsel appointment of Jack Smith as a stroke of brilliance. Smith, from what I’ve read is the perfect choice and he can focus on Trump whereas Garland must oversee a department of some 100k employees on a day-to-day basis.

Lastly, I cannot help but mention that I am in awe of Biden’s legislative accomplishments. However, should he decide not to run again, I would be all-in for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. I think she has what it takes to be the nest president. Just saying.
