In a word: Trump.

There is a significant portion to US voters who have, do, and always will support him. He is their guy. The bought into his "I alone can fix it" con, and neither Trump or Trumpers can let it go. It's a paradigm, and paradigms only die with their adherents. After that, the paradigm will live on among a zombi. Dead but not knowing it.

What can the sane do while the lunatics run the asylum [i.e., the House]? Prove them wrong at the polls. Vote overwhelmingly for the one party that still believes in our version of democracy: Democrats. Not perfect but not insane.

Someday, this Republican Party will pass like the Know Nothing Party of the 19th century. No doubt, they'll have to change the name. This Trumpublican Party is lethal poison to our body politic.
