Instead of either/or, we got both. Half of our population fears the authoritarianism that the other half relishes, the former half trusts science, believes facts and pursues truth that the latter half replaces with conspiracy theories, blind faith and outright lies. One half wants a democracy of equals, the other half wants the spoils of victory, even when they lose.

But there is one thing that both halves have in common: Both claim to fight for their own “individuality” against the opposing oppression. It’s a mind-body duality that will probably never change so long as humans rule the planet.
