“It’s just a theory.” Equally galling is the common prejudice that since science changes, it must be or must have been wrong. Witness this during the pandemic. In the beginning we knew almost nothing about Covid-19. What it was, where it came from, how it spread, why it came about. As each new set of scientific data built upon a previous set, deniers took that as evidence to support their own “theory” that it was all some sort of hoax. Science and scientists were trashed, and deniers gleefully built their own anti-science brand and sold it to a willfully ignorant segment of society reveling in their own bubble of confirmation bias.

“Science changes,” became “they’re lying.”
