It’s not stupidity that’s endangering the human race, although there’s plenty of that to go around. But stupidity should not be confused with ignorance. The right-wingers in this country are typically Ivy League alums. Not stupid by any stretch, they are highly educated but willfully ignorant. The problem with the human race is its appalling lack of empathy, its surfeit of greed and its lust for power over others. Look at the cruelty on the anonymous internet. Look at the willingness to torture other human beings as the Russian army has done to Ukrainian civilians. Look at the justification to torture our own adversaries as the Bush 2 administration did in the Abu Ghraib prison, proving just as effective as waterboarding in exposing Salem witches.

The human race has a problem, exacerbated by every good intention of church and state. I don’t know what the solution is, but I can only ‘Imagine.’
