I've always liked the color purple. I think of it as the opposite of green. Purple is red and blue; green is blue and yellow [talking pigments here]. And just as there is a wide varied of green hues, so too purple can be either closer to red [depicted in the flag shown here] or closer to blue [depicted in the sea snail shown below], more commonly referred to as violet, and many variations in between. There is something about the rarity of purple that inspires intrigue if not reverence, royalty notwithstanding.
