Many comparisons between the USA and the Roman Empire, between Donald Trump and Julius Caesar. Here’s another: Rome was a republic before Caesar came along. Internal factions were already fighting before Caesar essentially said, “I alone can fix it.” The Senate both feared and loathed him, surrendering their precious republic to a dictatorship. Caesar was disposed of. * Civil War ensued. An empire replaced the republic, the rich grew richer and the poor grew poorer. Corruption, poverty, civil and racial unrest swelled, inequity exploded exponentially. The empire fell.
