So, Trump will put tariffs on Canada and Mexico to force them to comply with his demands, thus punishing America for the alleged “malign” actions of Canada and Mexico. But it’s Americans who are demanding and paying for the fentanyl in the first place. They’ll still pay for the fentanyl, and now we'll all pay more for manufactured goods too.
And tariffs on Chinese products will further hurt American consumers. But why would Canada, Mexico or China impose their own tariffs on American imports when they know that it would only hurt their own Canadian, Mexican and Chinese consumers? And what, really, does America export to these countries anyway?
This whole Trump tariff scheme is like someone holding a gun to their own head and yelling at the intruder, “Stop! Or I’ll shoot!”
