Trump has turned America into a hyped-up high school where frat boys and varsity quarterbacks get the cheerleaders pregnant to score points. They are the Proud Boys, the celluloid heroes. Life is a game of victory, opponents to be vanquished. Only the strong survive.

The smart kids are boring. They play chess and read Shakespeare. They do their homework and have debates. They plan their future, they play by the rules, they take responsibility seriously. They look to cooperate with their peers and see life, not as a zero-sum, but a process to benefit posterity.

Two Americas: One glorifies the past greatness of a chimera; the other aspires to a more perfect union.
