The Beatles always managed to be in the right place at the right time, especially when they came to America. November 22, 1963, the whole world was shocked by the assassination of JFK. Presidents and prime ministers, friends and even enemies mourned our loss. That assassination changed the world like no other since the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. America had lost its hero, and its naiveté. We wanted to forget that horrible moment but we couldn’t get past it without an equally world changing diversion. That happened right after Christmas with a short film clip on the Jack Paar Show of a group called the Beatles singing “She Loves You” under a hail of Jelly Babies in a London theater.
It was a preview of the Beatles in America a month later on the Ed Sullivan Show. American could now put the Kennedy assassination behind us, we had our new diversion. The Beatles had arrived!
