Trump’s “power” resided in the fact that no one has spine enough to confront him in either the domestic or the foreign spheres, those who do are cashiered with a tweet.

Democrats do confront him because they have nothing to give him, and he has nothing to take from them. Republicans don’t because they have already given him everything they have, including their dignity. Foreign allies may gently confront him because he is, for better or worse, the president of the United States. Foreign adversaries don’t because they know they can better manipulate him – Trump is, after all, philosophically one of them.

This emperor is the court fool. The fool doesn’t know that people are not laughing with him, they are laughing at him.
