You have FAR more faith in “electronically facilitated direct democracy” than I ever would.
First; We are nowhere near a secure electronically facilitated anything, least of all a democracy.
Second; Direct democracy worked on a small scale, in ancient Athens, until it didn’t.
But regardless how or why our constitutional republic started, regardless of the history and philosophy behind its inception, we are stuck with it for the foreseeable future. Revolutions and constitutional conventions are unpredictable. There is no consensus in America for anything and probably never has been – inclusive of the original Constitutional Convention – which is why we have the system of checks and balances that we have today. Nothing works the way it’s planned because the biggest flaw in all the plans is the unavoidable human factor. Turning our future over to Artificial Intelligence is certain doom; artificial annihilation.
The likely fact of the matter is that neither your ideas nor mine will ever prevail. We might evolve to a better system if we survive to evolve at all. Notwithstanding, probably half the world doesn’t even accept evolution – either physically or intellectually. If we cannot evolve, we are more likely to devolve and dissolve into a world wide “civil” war.
